Terms of Service
Effective July 21, 2026. SatJourney is currently in beta; these terms may be updated as the service matures.
1. The service
SatJourney (“we,” “us”) turns satellite messages sent from your Garmin inReach® device into an online trip journal at satjourney.com, and lets others follow those trips on the web, by email, and by SMS. SatJourney is not affiliated with Garmin.
2. SatJourney is not an emergency service
SatJourney must never be used for emergency communication. It does not monitor messages for distress, does not dispatch help, and message delivery may be delayed or fail entirely. In an emergency, use your device’s dedicated SOS function and contact local emergency services. Outdoor activities are inherently dangerous; you are solely responsible for your own safety and preparation.
3. Accounts
You must provide accurate information and keep your password secure. During the beta, signup requires an invite code. You are responsible for activity under your account. Usernames are permanent in the current version. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
4. Subscriptions and trials
Creator features (publishing trips) require a paid plan after any free trial ends. Trial terms are shown when you start one; some invite codes grant extended trials. When paid billing launches it will be handled by Stripe under terms presented at checkout. If a trial or subscription lapses mid-trip, updates already flowing continue to be recorded, but trip management features are limited until you subscribe. Satellite messaging costs charged by Garmin or your carrier are always your own.
5. Your content
You own the photos, text, and location data you post. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute that content solely to operate the service (including showing public trips to visitors, sending follower notifications, and generating link previews). Public trips are visible to anyone, including search engines; unlisted trips are hidden from listings but viewable by anyone with the link. Deleting content hides it from the service; residual copies may persist in backups for a limited time.
6. Acceptable use
No unlawful content, harassment, impersonation, malware, scraping at scale, or attempts to break or overload the service. Don’t post content you lack rights to. We may remove content or restrict accounts that violate this section. Copyright complaints: email us and we will review promptly.
7. SMS and email features
Trip followers receive SMS updates only after texting YES to an invitation, and can stop at any time by replying STOP. Email notifications include one-click unsubscribe. When you invite a follower by phone number, you confirm you have their permission to send them that invitation.
8. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or $50 if you paid nothing). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Changes and termination
We may modify the service or these terms; material changes will be announced on the site or by email, and continued use after changes means acceptance. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time.
10. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA. Questions: legal@satjourney.com.
